The Allan Law Group’s Entertainment Litigation Practice has years of experience and expertise with representing clients in their litigation disputes in the music, film and TV world.
Music Law Litigation
The Attorneys at Allan Law Group PC have helped numerous individuals in the music industry, including recording artists, songwriters, musicians, music producers, music managers, music publishers, and other music industry professionals protect their interests through arbitration, Mediation and litigation.
Our Music Law Litigation and Copyright litigation attorneys are actively involved in litigation and arbitration involving music royalties, sampling, licensing, accounting disputes, and copyright infringement and trademark infringement. We also represent clients in copyright renewal claims and recapturing their copyrights through termination.
Copyright Recapture
We assist authors and heirs in getting back copyright ownership of works. The Copyright Act is creating windows of opportunities for authors and heirs to recapture rights in post 1978 works 35 years after the date of the grant, despite contracts which specify that the transfer was in perpetuity.
Works that were registered prior to January 1, 1978, can be terminated 56 years from the date of copyright registration. Works made for hire are an exception. However, authors, estates and heirs should be aware that the right to recapture is only available during a specific time period and will be lost if certain deadlines and statutory notice requirements are not met.
Music law Disputes
Our litigation attorneys represent artists and writers in disputes involving the ownership of sound recordings and musical compositions and the right to exploit them as well as the compensation to be paid in connection with the uses for their intellectual property. We also represent copyright owners of sound recordings and musical compositions in disputes involving royalty accounting.
